• OPEIU Discount College Benefit:
  • OPEIU has announced a new college benefit for union members and their families. The OPEIU Discount College Benefit will offer up to 50% discounted tuition rates and this still applies to your federal grant awards to reduce out of pocket costs.

• OPEIU Union Scholarships:

  • Yearly, OPEIU opens the application period for the Howard Coughlin Memorial and John Kelly Labor Studies Scholarships in January.

    • Howard Coughlin Memorial Scholarship – Full time Scholarship Maximum of $6,500.00. Part time Scholarship maximum value of $2,650.00. 

    • Open to members and their dependents

  • John Kelly Labor Studies Scholarship

    • Open to OPEIU members only and the student must be pursuing a degree in Labor Studies, Industrial Relations, or Union Leadership and Administration.

    • Maximum value of $3,250.00

  • Applications for OPEIU’s Howard Coughlin Memorial Scholarship are available January - March each year through the MAGE-OPEIU office by calling 1-800-477-MAGE, emailing info@mage.org, or visiting the MAGE website.

  • In addition to the Howard Coughlin Scholarship, Union Plus Scholarships are available. The amount of these scholarships’ ranges from $500 to $4,000. This is a one-time cash award sent to individual winners for undergraduate study beginning in the fall of the same year. • OPEIU Student Debt Reduction:

  • Yearly, OPEIU opens the application period for the OPEIU Student Debt Reduction Program in April.

    • This program is open to OPEIU members in good standing with at least $10,000 in student debt.

    • Applicants are eligible for one $2,500.00 lifetime award.

• MAGE Scholarship and Student Debt Reduction:

  • Yearly, MAGE opens our Scholarship/Student Debt Reduction Program application period. The application period is open from June through the final weekday of August.

  • Applications are emailed to all members and posted on our website News area.

    • Applicants are eligible to win one $1,000.00 lifetime award.

    • Applications are open to active, not retired members in good standing, and their children, stepchildren, legally adopted child, or legal ward of the member.
