Letter to the Governor

The Honorable Rick Snyder
Governor of Michigan
State Capitol
P.O. Box 30013
Lansing, Michigan 48909

Dear Governor Snyder :

My name is Alan Quattrin.  I am the President of the Michigan Association of Governmental Employees.  We represent the managers, supervisors and confidential employees who work for the State of Michigan.  As President, I try to keep my finger on the pulse of not only our members but also the employees in the rank and file.

I thought you would be interested to know that a YouTube video of your address at Trooper Butterfield’s memorial service has been making the rounds.  I and many Corrections employees were disappointed when we heard you thank police officers, firemen and emergency responders for risking their lives daily to serve and protect, yet failed to mention Department of Corrections employees.  I am sure this was an oversight on your part, especially since the Honor Guard present was Corrections Officers.

As an employee of the Department of Corrections for 32 years, I understand that we often serve without a thank you.  I was present at Marquette Prison and witnessed the murder of Earl DeMarse , so I can testify first hand that MDOC employees also put their lives on the line to serve the people of our state.

Respectfully,
Alan Quattrin
President
